Grow your own

Growing your own fruit and vegetables can be incredibly satisfying. It is a relaxing form of exercise, and it is good to know exactly where your produce has come from. It can be a fun, family activity, and requires little equipment or expertise. Growing your own offers the following benefits:

  • Fewer or no pesticides
  • No GM produce
  • Cheaper food
  • Better flavour
  • More variety

You don’t have to have a huge garden (or in fact ANY garden!) to grow your own food. You can grow your own fruit and veg in a variety of different ways, including:

  • in your own back garden
  • in an allotment
  • in planting pots
  • in a grow bag

There is a wide variety of fruit and veg which can be grown in the UK, such as beans, carrots, parsnips and peas, and strawberries, peaches, pears and rhubarb. The first step is deciding what you want to grow! And remember, if you ever end up with too much produce, you can always sell it or donate it!
